Directed by Michael Shannon, this film adapts Brett Neveu's 2002 play, focusing on a mother grappling with the devastating aftermath of her son's crime—he has killed three of his fellow high school students. Judy Greer plays Janice, who navigates life in a daze, overwhelmed by unresolved anger and sorrow. Her husband (Alexander Skarsgård) finds some comfort in a new church community, but Janice struggles to turn to faith, even as her pastor encourages her to begin healing by meeting the mothers of her son’s victims. As she reflects on whether such a meeting could bring any peace to herself or her community, Eric LaRue challenges viewers to confront the emotional wreckage that violence leaves behind.
