Taandob (2025) [Movie Review]: Shakib Khan's Political Action and Humanity

fdsf

"Shakib Khan's Taandob" (2025) is a bold political thriller that brings back the superstar in an all-new role. This film is directed by Shamim Ahamed Roni and explores the dark alleys of power, corruption, and personal transformation. It is a call to action presented in entertainment with a strong narrative and eye-catching visuals.

Political and conspiratorial story

In Dhallywood's 2025 lineup, Taandob becomes a political thriller based on contemporary issues. The story begins with a shocking attack on a popular television channel in Dhaka, throwing the media industry and the public into chaos. Behind the orchestrated assault lies a shadowy figure named Mikhail, whose identity and motives are mysterious.

Jaya Ahsan, playing Saira, a former investigative journalist, is pulled back into the field by confusion. A journalistic instinct and a reluctant law enforcement assistant helped Saira uncover hidden political entanglements, illegal money, and threats to national security.

Shakib Khan transforms into Mikhail - a charismatic, dangerous, unpredictable character. Not only does Shakib challenge himself by acting boundaries by playing a complex antihero role, but he also breaks typical hero stereotypes.

Shakib Khan Transforms Himself as Mikhail

Shakib Khan portrays Mikhail with a layered performance - part mastermind, part victim, part vigilante. He plays a more calculated, intense, and at times, chilling version of Shakib than the commercial action heroes we usually see him portray.

Khan uses restraint and depth to show Mikhail, a man who believes in his own twisted understanding of justice. He dominates every scene he's in, from fiery speeches to silent stares.

Jaya Ahsan delivers a solid counterbalance as Saira. She’s brave, methodical, and determined. Their chemistry is not romantic, but intellectual and ideological, bringing refreshing maturity to their relationship.

Siam Ahmed and Chanchal Chowdhury offer strong supporting roles, representing the corrupted system or the system trying to survive. As actors, their performances lend realism to the story and emotional weight to the political narrative.

Direction, Cinematography & Music

Taandob proves why Raihan Rafi is one of the most influential voices in Bangladeshi cinema today with its bold storyline. His direction is well-focused, sharp, and visually appealing without being overbearing. In Rafi's films, he effortlessly balances action sequences, political dialogues, and emotional tension.

With Kamrul Hasan Khosru's cinematography, urban Dhaka comes to life - from newsrooms to secret hideouts and government corridors. Color grading and tight camera angles add to the immersive experience of the thriller's chase and interrogation scenes.

Musician Pritom Hasan and composer Habib Wahid compose an electric score that haunts the listener. Background music heightens tension at the right moments, while emotional tracks ground the story.

Conclusion

Taandob examines power, media, and the thin line between justice and manipulation. It asks hard questions about loyalty, morality, and what happens when truth itself is under attack. In contrast to formulaic action movies, Taandob is a film with substance and style. Storytelling and character arcs now matter just as much as mass appeal in Bangladeshi cinema.
