Indian Bengali Actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee Dies in Accidental Drowning During Odisha Shoot

Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, 43, died on Sunday in an accidental incident while shooting for a web series near Talsari beach in Odisha, close to Digha. The popular actor, known for his work across Bengali films, television, and OTT projects, reportedly slipped into deep water during a shoot and was later declared dead after being taken to the hospital.


According to the crew, the shooting had almost wrapped up when Rahul reportedly insisted on doing one more unplanned drone shot for the series Bhole Baba Paar Karega. The scene was being filmed in knee-deep water, and while a first take had already been completed, the actor went further into the sea for another take. Team members and lifeguards tried to rescue him after a large wave hit and he lost his balance, but he had already swallowed a large amount of water. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A senior doctor at Digha State General Hospital said the actor was brought in around 6.10 pm and had already passed away by the time medical staff examined him. Police from the Digha coastal station reached the hospital soon after receiving the news. Officials have registered an unnatural death case and said they are looking into whether safety protocols were properly followed at the shoot. The post-mortem is expected to help determine the exact cause of death.


Rahul Arunoday Banerjee had built a strong presence in Bengali entertainment over the years. He made his film debut with Chirodini Tumi Je Amar in 2009, a performance that brought him instant recognition. His natural screen presence and relatable acting style helped him stand apart in the industry, and he soon became a familiar face in films and serials.

Over the years, he appeared in several notable films, including Jackpot, Jaatishwar, Zulfiqar, and Chotushkone. He was also widely appreciated for his role as Ajit in the Byomkesh franchise. His work ranged from mainstream dramas to more experimental cinema, showing a versatility that earned him respect among both audiences and colleagues.


Outside of films, Rahul was active in television and digital content as well. He also ran a podcast channel called Shojoj Kotha, named after his son Shohoj, which reflected his personal connection with storytelling and communication.


Rahul was married to actor Priyanka Sarkar, and the two had been among the well-known couples in the Bengali film industry. His sudden death has left fans and colleagues deeply shocked, with many remembering him not only as an accomplished performer but also as a warm and grounded person.
