Awarapan 2 (2026) [Movie Review] — Emraan Hashmi Brings Shivam Pandit Back With Style

Nearly two decades after Awarapan (2007), Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, this Bollywood action thriller combines revenge, crime, emotion, and romance while deliberately embracing the old-school sensibilities of its predecessor. Although it does not quite reach the emotional heights of the original, the sequel remains an entertaining comeback for one of Emraan’s most memorable characters.

A Personal Mission Driven by Loss

The story finds Shivam still struggling with the loss of Aaliyah, the woman who permanently changed his life. Haunted by grief and surrounded by the consequences of his violent past, he finds himself drawn into another dangerous situation when he discovers an abandoned girl and names her Aaliyah.

He arranges for the child to live in safety, only to discover that her adoptive family is connected to an international child-trafficking network. Determined not to lose Aaliyah a second time, Shivam enters a brutal mission that takes him to Bangkok, where he must confront a powerful criminal operation and the demons he has carried for years.

Nitin Kakkar Keeps the Massy Spirit Alive

Nitin Kakkar understands exactly what audiences expect from an Awarapan sequel. Rather than completely modernising the franchise, the director preserves its familiar combination of brooding heroes, dramatic confrontations, emotional dialogue and stylish action.

The Bangkok backdrop gives the film a polished international feel, while the action sequences provide enough punch to keep the narrative moving. The screenplay by Vishesh Bhatt, Sanjay Masoomm and Bilal Siddiqi follows some predictable paths, but occasional twists and the film’s confident pacing prevent it from becoming entirely routine.

Emraan Hashmi Owns the Film

There is little doubt that Emraan Hashmi is the biggest reason Awarapan 2 works. He brings a weary intensity to Shivam that makes the character feel like a natural continuation of the wounded man audiences remember.

Hashmi communicates much of Shivam’s pain through silence and restrained expressions before allowing the character’s anger to explode during the action scenes. His screen presence gives even familiar moments an added weight, while his dialogue delivery reinforces the image of a man who has become almost fearless after years of loss.

Supporting Cast Adds Strength

Disha Patani gets moments to shine as Zara, although her romantic chemistry with Hashmi does not always feel convincing. Her character could have benefited from greater emotional depth.

Shabana Azmi makes an impact as Nafisa Nawab, particularly during her early confrontations with Shivam. However, the film does not utilise her talent as effectively as it could have. Puran Gabbi brings unpredictability to Zorawar, while Suvinder Vicky and Vijayant Kohli perform effectively within more conventional gangster roles. Anirudh Rawal also leaves an impression as Sikandar.

Music Brings Back the Awarapan Magic

Music remains one of the sequel’s strongest nostalgic elements. The reprised “Toh Phir Aao” immediately reconnects the film with the emotional identity of the original. “Tera Mera Rishta,” composed by Mithoon and presented in a new rendition, also carries the melodic quality that Awarapan fans are likely to appreciate.

The background score further strengthens the film’s emotional and action-heavy moments, helping maintain its distinctly old-school Bollywood atmosphere.

Final Verdict: A Massy Reunion for Emraan Fans

Awarapan 2 is not without shortcomings. Its narrative can feel predictable, some supporting characters are underdeveloped, and the romance occasionally lacks the emotional spark required. Still, the sequel succeeds because it understands its audience. It is dramatic, sentimental, action-packed, and unapologetically commercial. Most importantly, Emraan Hashmi remains the soul of the film, bringing back Shivam Pandit with the same wounded intensity that made the original so memorable.

For fans of Awarapan and Emraan Hashmi, this is less a conventional sequel and more a nostalgic reunion—and that alone gives it considerable appeal.
