Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar (2026) Review: Directed by Shahad Nilambur, Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar is a Malayalam crime drama that explores the dangerous consequences of a split-second decision. Featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Vinay Forrt, Mathew Thomas, Vijayaraghavan and Sidharth Bharathan, the film builds its story around four police officers who find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Although the movie delivers suspense and strong performances, its failure to explore the deeper moral conflicts behind its premise prevents it from reaching its full potential.
Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar Story: When Police Officers Become Suspects
The story unfolds shortly before Christmas, when a police patrol brings a suspicious driver named Jayaprakash to a station. Unbeknownst to the officers, he is a dangerous criminal connected to a serious crime committed earlier that night. A confrontation between Jayaprakash and four on-duty cops soon turns violent, ending with his accidental death during the struggle.
Panicked by the consequences, the officers decide to conceal what happened rather than report the incident as an act of self-defence. They delete the station's CCTV footage and begin counting down the 14 days before the backup disappears permanently.
Their plan becomes increasingly complicated when senior Crime Branch officer Harris Meeran, played by Vijayaraghavan, begins investigating Jayaprakash's disappearance. The criminal is linked to the murder of a decorated retired Army officer, and Meeran's investigation gradually brings him closer to the four officers. Aleena, portrayed by Parvathy Thiruvothu, attempts to anticipate the experienced investigator's moves and protect her colleagues.

What Works in Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar: Suspense and Strong Performances
One of the film's biggest strengths is its ability to create tension around an increasingly dangerous situation. Shahad Nilambur maintains a steady pace, building anticipation as the officers struggle to keep their secret hidden. Sequences involving Jayaprakash's encounter at the Army veteran's house and Meeran's efforts to uncover the truth provide some of the film's most gripping moments.
Parvathy Thiruvothu delivers a compelling performance as Aleena. She convincingly portrays a police officer caught between fear, desperation, and the determination to protect her team. Her performance remains controlled and believable, giving the character emotional weight without relying on excessive melodrama.
Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan and Unnimaya Prasad contribute effectively to the central group, while Vinay Forrt adds welcome humour through his comic timing. Vijayaraghavan brings authority to Harris Meeran, making him a formidable presence as the investigation progresses.
Roby Varghese Raj's cinematography strengthens the tense atmosphere, while Chaman Chakko's editing helps maintain momentum during the film's more suspenseful stretches.
Where Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar Falls Short: A Lack of Moral Complexity
Despite its promising premise, the screenplay by P.S. Subramanian and Vijesh Thottingal does not fully explore the psychological consequences of the officers' actions. Instead of examining their guilt, fear, and conflicting sense of duty, the narrative often concentrates on their attempts to survive the 14-day waiting period.
The film also misses an important opportunity to examine why the officers choose a cover-up instead of explaining that the shooting happened during a struggle. Their immediate decision feels insufficiently explored, weakening the emotional and ethical conflict at the centre of the story.
The narrative largely encourages viewers to sympathise with the police officers, while Jayaprakash's criminal background makes it easier to dismiss the moral implications of his death. A more balanced examination of justice, accountability and the abuse of authority could have made the drama considerably more powerful.
The film may also remind viewers of Nayattu (2021), another Malayalam police drama that examines officers trapped in difficult circumstances. However, Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar lacks the same sustained intensity and psychological depth.

Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar Verdict: Worth Watching for Its Cast and Suspense
Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar is an engaging Malayalam crime drama supported by Parvathy Thiruvothu's performance, effective cinematography, and several suspenseful sequences. Shahad Nilambur demonstrates a clear understanding of tension, but the screenplay does not make the most of its intriguing premise.
As a police thriller, the movie does well, but as a more in-depth examination of morality and responsibility, it falls short. With more layered character development and a stronger examination of its ethical questions, it could have been a far more memorable cinematic experience.
