Dhamaal 4 (2026) [Movie Review] — A Loud Sequel That Struggles to Find the Funny

Dhamaal 4 arrives as the fourth instalment in the popular comedy franchise, following Dhamaal (2007), Double Dhamaal (2011) and Total Dhamaal (2019). Directed by Indra Kumar and written by Paritosh Painter, Vedd Prakash and Bunty Rathore, the film once again brings together a collection of greedy, eccentric characters chasing a long-lost treasure.

The formula is familiar: confusion, slapstick, dangerous adventures, mistaken identities and characters making increasingly foolish decisions. Unfortunately, familiarity is not the film's biggest problem. The real issue is that Dhamaal 4 rarely manages to be genuinely funny.

Another Hidden Treasure, Another Round of Predictable Chaos

The story revolves around a century-old treasure that attracts a colourful group of characters, each hoping to get rich without considering the consequences. The adventure begins with a map, a mysterious hidden fortune, and several desperate individuals willing to risk everything to reach it first.

Ajay Devgn plays Guddu, while Riteish Deshmukh returns to the familiar territory of an ambitious, loud and greedy character. Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi are once again thrown into chaos, while Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Upendra Limaye and others join the increasingly crowded narrative.

A Dhamaal film has never required a particularly sophisticated plot, but the screenplay still needs a strong comic rhythm. Here, the writing feels flimsy and disconnected. The situations become bigger, but the laughs become smaller. Even by the deliberately illogical standards of slapstick comedy, many sequences struggle to establish convincing comic momentum.

The Comedy Misses More Often Than It Hits

The original Dhamaal worked because its absurdity was supported by memorable characters, sharp reactions, and genuinely effective comic timing. Dhamaal 4, however, often mistakes shouting and constant activity for humour.

Only a handful of jokes make an impact, while many dialogues feel like missed opportunities for memorable punchlines. The film repeatedly pushes situations beyond logic, which would not have been a problem if the madness had been entertaining.

Some of the humour also feels disappointingly outdated. Certain jokes, including repeated comments centred on a character's body, come across as regressive rather than amusing. The film's attempts to use such material as easy comedy make the screenplay feel less inventive than it should be.

Adding to the exhaustion is the loud background score, which frequently tells the audience when to laugh instead of allowing the comedy to develop naturally.

A Talented Cast Left Searching for Better Material

Ajay Devgn and the Ensemble Cannot Fully Rescue the Weak Writing

Ajay Devgn remains dependable as Guddu, but the character offers little that feels fresh. Riteish Deshmukh brings considerable energy to his role, even if the screenplay gives him limited comic material to elevate.

The biggest disappointment is perhaps the underuse of Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi. Their chemistry has the potential to generate effortless humour, yet the writing rarely gives them situations strong enough to exploit it.

Sanjay Mishra, despite his proven comic abilities, is reduced to an irritating sidekick, while Ravi Kishan also struggles against mediocre material. Anjali Anand leaves a reasonably positive impression despite the problematic treatment of her character, and Esha Gupta is given frustratingly little to do.

The cast is talented. The screenplay simply does not know how to use everyone effectively.

CGI Provides the Film’s Most Consistent Entertainment

The Adventure Looks Better Than the Comedy Sounds

One area where Dhamaal 4 deserves credit is its visual presentation. The CGI and visual effects are surprisingly convincing, helping some of the more extravagant adventure sequences feel bigger and more polished.

However, spectacle cannot completely compensate for weak comedy. The soundtrack is largely forgettable, while frequent callbacks to previous Dhamaal films have an unintended effect: they remind viewers of the sharper humour and stronger chemistry that the franchise once possessed.

Dhamaal 4 has a capable cast, improved visual scale and a proven comic formula, but it struggles to transform these ingredients into consistent entertainment. The film keeps moving, shouting and escalating, yet genuine laughter remains surprisingly scarce.

For fans of mindless slapstick and chaotic treasure-hunt adventures, there may be a few enjoyable moments. But compared with the franchise's earlier outings, this fourth chapter feels like a diminishing return.
