I’m Game (2026) [Movie Review] — Dulquer’s Wild Supernatural Gamble Is Messy but Entertaining

Nahas Hidhayath’s I’m Game is not interested in playing it safe. Built as a supernatural fantasy action entertainer, the Malayalam film mixes gambling, cricket betting, humour, revenge, action and mysterious twists into one unusually chaotic package. The result is far from perfect, but its willingness to embrace madness gives it a personality that many conventional mass entertainers lack.

At the centre of the story is Dan John, played by Dulquer Salmaan. A wealthy and reckless gambler, Dan is introduced as a stylish, arrogant, and deeply selfish man who treats life almost like another bet. His world changes dramatically after an accident and a life-changing transplant, following which a series of strange supernatural incidents begins to disrupt his already complicated existence.

Dulquer Salmaan Makes Dan John Surprisingly Fun to Watch

Dulquer Salmaan is the film’s biggest strength. Dan is not designed as a traditional hero, and the actor wisely avoids making him unnecessarily likeable. Instead, he fully embraces the character’s arrogance, charm, and reckless attitude.

The film gradually gives viewers a glimpse into Dan’s perspective without forcing a conventional redemption arc. His belief that everyone carries regrets from the past adds some emotional weight to an otherwise larger-than-life character. Dulquer’s screen presence also helps carry several stretches of the first half, where I’m Game feels particularly energetic.

A Supernatural Story That Refuses to Follow the Usual Formula

The film’s biggest gamble is its supernatural premise. Following Dan’s transplant, seemingly unrelated events start connecting in increasingly strange ways. The story uses this mystery to explore karma, revenge, and the consequences of reckless choices, while avoiding becoming a straightforward moral lesson about gambling.

Nahas Hidhayath also injects plenty of humour into the supernatural elements. Some sequences deliberately lean into slapstick and cinematic exaggeration, creating a heightened tone that may not work for everyone but fits the film’s eccentric personality. Jakes Bejoy’s background score adds considerable energy to these moments and strengthens the larger-than-life presentation.

Kayadu Lohar and Antony Varghese Add More Energy

Kayadu Lohar brings an interesting presence to the female lead, although aspects of her character and profession feel somewhat forced. Her equation with Dan is unconventional, but some of the writing choices surrounding her character could have been more convincing.

Antony Varghese fares better as Vignesh, a cricketer whose arrival is surrounded by considerable anticipation. While his introduction does not immediately make the desired impact, Antony quickly settles into the role and delivers a confident performance once his character gets room to shine.

Mysskin, Kathir and Vinay Forrt also contribute to the film’s colourful supporting ensemble, while a surprise appearance by Asif Ali adds another playful touch.

Stylish Action and Strong Technical Craft Keep Things Moving

The action sequences are among the more enjoyable elements of I’m Game. The single-handed fight sequences have an appealing physicality, while the portions involving Dan and Vignesh inside Dan’s flat are staged with good energy.

Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography complements the film’s supernatural atmosphere, while Chaman Chacko’s editing generally keeps its many tonal shifts under control. However, the nearly three-hour runtime becomes increasingly noticeable in the second half, where the narrative loses some momentum and develops a few unnecessary lags.

Final Verdict: A Messy but Enjoyable Supernatural Entertainer

I’m Game is undeniably messy. Some developments feel too convenient, certain character choices are questionable, and the second half could have benefited from tighter editing. Yet, these flaws do not completely overpower the film’s entertainment value.

What makes the movie work is its sheer willingness to be excessive, strange, and unpredictable. It combines supernatural fantasy with cricket betting, action, comedy, and revenge without becoming another completely predictable mass film. The post-credit scenes also provide a neat finishing touch.

For viewers willing to embrace its eccentricity, I’m Game offers a surprisingly entertaining ride. Dulquer Salmaan’s committed performance, energetic action, and wonderfully weird supernatural ideas make this imperfect gamble worth taking.
