Jolly LLB 3 (2025) [Movie Review]: A sharp, humane courtroom comedy

fdsf

In Jolly LLB 3, Subhash Kapoor returns with a legal comedy-drama that balances bite and heart. Anchored by energetic turns from Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi and a razor-sharp Saurabh Shukla, the film uses its trademark humor to interrogate land grab controversies and institutional indifference.

Plot Overview

Land, loss, and a courtroom showdown

A grieving farmer-poet from Parsaul loses ancestral land to industrialist Haribhai Khaitan, and his widow Janaki (Seema Biswas) files suit in Delhi. Enter the two Jollys — Jagdishwar Mishra (Akshay Kumar) and Jagdish Tyagi (Arshad Warsi) — whose rivalry fuels the film’s comic engine as Justice Sundar Lal Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla) presides. What plays out is equal parts courtroom sparring and a probe into how power, policy, and prejudice collude against the vulnerable.

Performances

Comedy and conviction in the dock

Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi trade barbs with impeccable timing; their chemistry is the franchise’s lifeblood. Kumar’s climactic courtroom fury lands with conviction, while Warsi’s crisp rebuttals keep the film grounded in wit. Saurabh Shukla is a scene-stealer, shifting from world-weary to incandescent when provoked. Gajraj Rao as the imperious industrialist, plus Ram Kapoor and Seema Biswas in supporting roles, round out a sturdy ensemble. Huma Qureshi and Amrita Rao make the most of compact but meaningful roles.

Direction & Writing

Familiar template, renewed focus

Subhash Kapoor, who also wrote the film, sticks to the franchise’s winning formula: sharp courtroom antics spliced with social conscience. The narrative takes its time to warm up, but the second half intensifies, particularly after a high-profile counsel from London raises the stakes. Some subplots (comic diversions and flirtatious detours) distract, yet the script’s core—exposing corporate land grabs and legal loopholes—remains persuasive.

Themes & Tone

Laughs with a moral backbone

Jolly LLB 3 keeps the laughs but never lets them fully eclipse its purpose. It interrogates why the marginalized are asked to sacrifice for “progress” and how the legal system can be both theater and instrument. The film’s tone oscillates between farce and moral outrage, and while a few moments veer into melodrama, the emotional truth carries through.

Verdict

An engaging, socially aware sequel

Jolly LLB 3 isn’t flawless, but it’s an entertaining, thought-provoking addition to the series. Fans of courtroom comedies will appreciate the repartee and the persuasive performances; viewers looking for a sharper satire may find some unevenness. Still, its heart and urgency make it well worth a watch.

Final Rating: satisfying and timely — 7.5/10
