Saptadingar Guptodhon (2026) [Film Review] — A Smart, Spirited Treasure Hunt Rooted in Folklore

fdsf

Dhrubo Banerjee’s Saptadingar Guptodhon adds another lively chapter to the much-loved Guptodhon universe, and it does so with confidence. Built around hidden clues, old legends and the lure of a royal treasure, the film follows Sona da once again as he is pulled into a mystery with the police close behind. The opening stretch may feel a little uneven, but the film gradually gathers pace and turns into an engaging adventure that blends wit, mystery and old-world charm with real effectiveness.

Folklore, History and Mystery Work Together

What makes the film stand out is the way it blends mythology, local folklore and historical suggestion into one cohesive treasure-hunt narrative. Rather than treating the mystery like a simple chase, Banerjee uses the setting to create a world where fact and legend constantly overlap. That gives the story a sense of playfulness and curiosity, encouraging the audience to solve the puzzle alongside the characters. This interactive quality has always been a strength of the franchise, and here it remains one of the film’s biggest rewards.

Performances Keep the Film Alive

The cast is a major reason Saptadingar Guptodhon works so well. Abir Chatterjee once again slips comfortably into the role of Sona da, bringing intelligence, calm confidence and quiet charm without ever making the character feel repetitive. Ishaa Saha adds warmth and emotional grace, and her performance brings a pleasing softness to the film’s more intense moments. Arjun Chakrabarty injects the story with energy and comic flair, delivering one of the film’s most entertaining turns. Rajatabha Dutta, meanwhile, is in excellent form, using his comic timing and larger-than-life presence to generate genuine laughs. The supporting cast, including Kaushik Ganguly, Buddhadev Das and Kamaleswar Mukherjee, helps deepen the texture of the story and keeps the adventure grounded.

A More Ambitious Visual Scale

Another strong point of the film is its visual ambition. For a mainstream Bengali adventure, the CGI is impressively polished, and the production design adds a convincing layer of scale and mystery. Ancient symbols, concealed chambers and artefacts are all presented with enough detail to make the world feel immersive. The film clearly wants to look bigger and more adventurous, and for the most part, it succeeds. The use of familiar enemies alongside new threats also helps maintain suspense, ensuring the stakes do not fade even when the screenplay briefly stretches itself thin.

A Fun Adventure That Rewards Patience

While the screenplay is not flawless and occasionally feels overextended, Saptadingar Guptodhon makes up for it with charm, pace and personality. Once it settles into its rhythm, the film becomes consistently enjoyable, balancing humour, intrigue and spectacle in a way that feels faithful to the franchise while still offering something new. It is not just a treasure hunt; it is a crowd-pleasing adventure with heart, intelligence and enough fun to keep viewers invested until the end.
