Set in a near-future Florida where gun control has been eliminated, the state’s ambitious governor (Oscar Nuñez, The Office) proposes a disturbing response to school shootings: a statewide televised competition called “The School Duel,” where students are forced to fight to the death. Sammy, a troubled 13-year-old, joins the program in secret despite his mother’s objections, drawn in by promises of purpose, patriotism, and fame. However, as the brutal event unfolds, his idealized vision begins to fall apart. Directed by Todd Wiseman Jr. in his feature debut, The School Duel is a provocative dystopian thriller exploring fear, manipulation, and one of the most overtly political genre narratives in recent years.
