Acclaimed writer-director Mona Fastvold (The World to Come, The Brutalist) presents a remarkable true-life legend centered on Ann Lee, the visionary founder of the Shakers, a devotional religious movement. Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried portrays the movement’s indomitable leader, celebrated by her followers for championing gender and social equality. The Testament of Ann Lee traces both the rapture and suffering of her pursuit to create a utopian community, blending history and emotion. The film incorporates more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns, transformed into powerful musical sequences with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall (Vox Lux), alongside original songs and a score composed by Academy Award winner Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist).
