Set in the Montana Territory during the 1870s, the story follows a widowed woman searching for her son, the most recent child to disappear from a harsh mining settlement. When he eventually returns possessed by a terrifying and insatiable evil, she is forced to confront an unbearable decision between her devotion to her child and a devastating sacrifice.
